Prof. Nayak provides technical assistance to Industries, Academic and Research Institutions in all the key domains of Polymer Engineering & Technology. His concerted efforts in various indigenization activities for Petrochemical industries and Polymer in particular have been noteworthy.

Prof. Nayak, has a distinguished career spanning over 36 years in diverse capacities in the spheres of teaching, research and consultancy to the Petrochemical industries. He is the former Director General (2007-2021) of Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET), a premier National Institute having pan-India presence under Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Govt. of India.
Prof. Nayak holds dual Ph.D Degree, both in Science & Engineering, and also D.Sc Degree in the area of ‘Polymer Science & Technology’. He has served as Adjunct Professor forfew internationally renowned Universities.
Prof. Nayak has been known for his pioneering research in the fields of Eco-friendly Composites, Nanocomposites, Bio Polymers and value addition of Plastics from E-waste. He is the author/editor of 30 Books / Book Chapters with leading International publishers. He has published more than 500 Research Papers in Peer Reviewed International Journals and has more than 50 Patents & Registered Product Designs to his credit.
He has been a mentor and guide to his group of faculty members and scientists in all their ventures. He has supervised more than 50 Ph.D scholars and 75 M. Tech/ M.E. thesis of students. His career exhibits abiding and keen interest in designing various scientific and administrative policies, for promoting the role of Petrochemical industry in socio-economic growth of the country. He has played a key role in formulating many standards in the area of petrochemicals in the capacity of Chairman BIS committee for more than a decade in the area of plastics, meterial & product.
Prof. Nayak is the recipient of ‘Distinguished Scientist Award’ in appreciation to his contribution to Polymer Science & Technology by Asian Polymer Association (APA), National Awards for Technology Innovations in Petrochemicals and Downstream Plastics Processing Industry by Govt. of India, conferred with Lifetime Achievement Award by FICCI for distinguished contribution to Indian Plastic Industry, conferred with Honoris Causa (Honorary Doctorate) by Utkal University (2017) and Biju Patnaik University of Technology (2020) for significant contributions in the sphere of Science & Technology, featured as one of the top 2% of the Global Scientists in the field of Polymers in a study by Prestigious Stanford University, USA.
Professor Nayak has quintessentially remained committed to the cause of promoting ‘Academia-industry interface’. He fosters research and development illuminated through his path breaking technological developments in the field of Polymer Science Engineering and Technology.
Currently Professor Sanjay K. Nayak is the Vice-Chancellor of Ravenshaw University, Cuttack, Odisha, one of the oldest heritage educational institutions of eastern India.
RESEARCH
Prof. Nayak has been the precursor for many research initiatives and is internationally acclaimed for interdisciplinary research programmes in the field of Composites, Nanocomposites, Compostable / Biodegradables materials, Recycling Technology, Coatings & Adhesives. His work has been published extensively in International Journals while he has authored many books with International publishers and has several patents to his credit along with multiple product designs.
His research has inspired several scientists worldwide. He has till date mentored 50 scholars for Ph.D program and 75 students for their M.Tech / M.E thesis.
